During these unusual times, we are thinking outside of the box to honor our students. Each year, Youth Assistance hosts a Youth Recognition event in May to honor students in grades 6-12 in the South Lyon Community School District for their volunteer work in our community. Though our community is starting to open back up again, we value everyone's health and feel it would be safer for our students and their families to wait until next year to resume our traditional program. Because South Lyon Area Youth Assistance believes it is essential to recognize these amazing students for their accomplishments we will be accepting nominations and recognizing students via social media and mailing certificates.
Nominees will be selected on the basis of a commitment to volunteer services performed within the past two years. While there is no minimum number of hours of service required, we want to recognize consistency and quality of service which demonstrates a sincere desire to contribute. Volunteer work performed to fulfill other requirements should not be considered, nor would students performing paid or mandated services be eligible. Some examples of voluntary service would include church or temple projects, agency or hospital service, or self-initiated volunteer efforts. Any individual or organization is eligible to submit nominations.
SLAYA will receive nominations for consideration through Friday, May 7, 2021. At this time, we are unable to receive US mail and faxes. We will accept all nomination forms emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once we have all nominations, we will mail out recognition packets to those students, as well as recognizing them via social media. Thank you for your continued support during these difficult times.
