WHAT IS ADOPT-A-READER
Adopt-a-Reader is a program available to lower elementary students who are experiencing difficulty in the area of reading, yet don't qualify for any special education programs. Our goal is to provide a trained volunteer tutor to work weekly with the student who is having difficulty. It is our desire to come along side the student and "adopt" them in the sense of providing encouragement and practice in basic reading and comprehension skills.

Many students in kindergarten, first, second and third grades have been helped by Adopt-a-Reader tutors in all of our elementary schools.

ADOPT-A-READER HELP WANTED
Volunteers are needed to read and play learning games with kindergarten through third graders who could use the extra one-on-one time with a caring adult. No experience is necessary, because training and materials are provided.

If you could consider giving an hour a week at your convenience to make a difference in the lives of two children, please contact:

Lindsey Jackson by either email at jacksonl@slcs.us, or phone at 248-941-1701.
