Points of Pride

Sayre is extremely fortunate to have many volunteers who help in the classrooms, the main office, and wherever needed! Last school year, volunteers logged over 5,000 hours helping students and staff.

Sayre has a strong PTO. This very active group sponsors student and family activities and raises money to purchase books, technology, and other supplementary materials and activities for the students.

The SIP (Shared Involvement Process) is a committee of parents, teachers, administrator and support staff, who meet monthly to lead Sayre's school improvement process, manage school activities, and discuss budget decisions. The SIP publishes minutes of each meeting, and invites comments and agenda topics from the community.

Each year, our fifth grade students and their teachers attend 5th Grade Adventure Days.

Fifth grade students run a TV studio with daily announcements that include school activities, weather, and Habits of Mind review.

March is Reading month was celebrated with a theme of “Read Around Michigan!”   Students were challenged to learn more about our amazing state through multimedia and reading from print.

Students at each grade level performed in a music “informance” during the school year.

Sayre students had their artwork displayed at the Salem-South Lyon Public Library during the district art show.

In September, our Sayre family enjoys the Ice Cream Social to catch up on summer happenings and celebrate the new school year.  Our Curriculum Nights/Open Houses features curriculum presentations by teachers.

Sayre’s Staff aligned field trips with curriculum. They included Washburn School, the Detroit Zoo, Plymouth Orchards, the Howell Nature Center, Matthai Botanical Gardens, and the Kensington Nature Center.

Many classrooms participate in classroom buddy reading programs.

Business Buddies, which are visitors from within our community, presented in our classrooms to provide a “real-world” connection to the various curriculum areas.
