Dolsen Families –
Another great week has come to a close. The weather was beautiful for Monday’s 5th grade track meet and students showed good sportsmanship while having fun. The 2nd graders had a successful field trip to the water treatment plant on Tuesday and represented Dolsen very well. And it appears that a lot of students have new books to read from the BOGO Scholastic Book Fair this week!
2018-19 – Online Back-to-School Process Information
As this school year is coming to a close, the elementary schools are planning for the upcoming 2018-19 school year. One of the major changes families and students will experience is an Online Back-to-School Process. Through the implementation of this process, families will have the ability to update or change student information, receive important documents, register for school communications, and enter emergency contact information.
Secondary schools have already been using this process for two years. If you have older children, you’ve experienced the benefits. If you have a child going to the middle school next year, you will be able to use the online process for them as well; you will receive an email from the middle school in mid- to late-July with detailed instructions.
Beginning August 1, 2018, the Online Back-to-School Process will be made available to all school parents/guardians through Skyward Family Access. If you don’t have or don’t know your Skyward Family Access login and password, please go to:
Click on “Forgot your Login/Password?” and follow the prompts.
This online system will replace the pencil and paper process that we have used previously. This will replace filling out the emergency card, signing the tech agreement etc.
Please watch for a reminder Skylert with more information and a “How To” guide in mid-July. You will be able to complete the process online or using the Skyward application.
If you do not have access to a computer at home, there will be Chromebooks available at the District Admin building from August 1st until August 20th. Dolsen offices will reopen on August 21st and we will also have Chromebooks here. We will have a "How To" guide and printed copies will be available for parents to use along with the Chromebook.
You will need to complete this online process by Tuesday August 28th in order to view your child’s classroom teacher assignment (in Skyward) which will be available on Thursday, August 30th.
We hope this will create a more efficient and effective process for families. This is not to be confused with enrolling a new student. This process is designed for all currently enrolled South Lyon Community Schools students planning on attending for the 2018-19 school year.
Developmental Kindergarten Survey
South Lyon Community Schools is looking for your feedback regarding the implementation of a Developmental Kindergarten program. Please respond only if you are interested in having your child participate in such a program for the 2018-19 school year. Feel free to share this information and the survey link with other families who might be interested in a Developmental Kindergarten program for next year.
Developmental Kindergarten (DK) is a program that districts can opt to offer to "young 5's" or students who need a transition year before traditional kindergarten. Different places refer to it by different names- young 5's, DK, junior kindergarten, etc.
DK is a bridge year to traditional kindergarten and does not replace a kindergarten year. Students attend DK and then a full year of traditional kindergarten the following year. DK is a full day, 5 day a week program that includes all content areas, although in a much more socially interactive environment and with a much stronger emphasis on social-emotional development.
For students residing within the school boundaries of the DK site, they would be able to use district buses to get to and from school. For other students, it would be considered through our schools of choice program and the family would need to provide transportation.
We are sending this survey to gauge interest in the program as well as interest in specific school sites.
Again, please respond only if you are interested in having your child participate in such a program for the 2018-19 school year. Thank you for your input.
