Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. Please allow
me to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Ray Metcalf. I was
born and raised in Dearborn, MI. While growing up in Dearborn, I decided
to go into education after I realized that someone close to me did not
enjoy school as much as I did. At that point I made it my mission to
make school and learning enjoyable and meaningful for all kids.
I graduated from the University of
Michigan-Dearborn in 2003 and was hired by South Lyon Community School
district as a third grade teacher at Dolsen Elementary. I transferred to
Sayre Elementary the following year to teach fifth grade and on a leap
of faith, moved to Texas thereafter. While in Texas, I taught middle
school math in Dallas, only to move back and find myself rehired by
South Lyon as a fourth grade teacher at Sayre. While at Sayre, I earned
my master’s degree in public administration at my alma mater in 2009. As
a member of SLCS I have been involved in various committees and cohorts
that have helped shape me as the principal I am today. Being a principal
has been a goal of mine for quite some time. I feel extremely lucky that
I am able to begin my career at Salem, as I know the community values
the school tremendously.
My wife Lisa, who is also in education, and I have
been married since 2010. We have two wonderful boys, Brady and Kellan,
who keep us moving. We want for our children what you want for yours; a
safe school that provides a top-notch educational experience and is
enjoyable for all children who attend. I hope that you see this in Salem
Elementary.
I am excited for a successful year at Salem.
Please stop by the office so that we can meet in person. I wish you and
your family a wonderful school year!
