Welcome to Hardy
Dear Hardy Families and Community Members:
Welcome to a virtual look at our outstanding
school! Our school is filled with many unique and special children who
fill our halls and classrooms each day with life and love.
It is with pride that I share with you that we
have a truly amazing and talented staff assembled at Hardy Elementary.
You have entrusted your child to us and we accept that responsibility
with great care and commitment.
It is my goal that the year ahead will allow your
child to grow, learn and engage in an exceptional learning environment.
The Hardy Staff and I are committed to bringing this goal to fruition.
You are a welcome partner in the education of your
child…we welcome you to the school and hope you will involve yourself in
many ways.
Warm regards,
Kimberley Warren, Principal
Our School
Hardy opened September of 2004.
It is a state of the art educational facility serving 650 students
across the district. The community’s support of Bond 2000 made this
opening possible. Hardy Elementary is named after a former teacher and
principal with South Lyon Community Schools. Sharon Hardy spent 32 years
committed to educating children in the district. Sharon Hardy’s
life-long commitment to the education of all students will be at the
heart and mission of this new elementary.
The staff at Hardy Elementary is comprised of
dedicated professionals: teachers, secretaries, building engineer,
custodians, paraprofessionals, playground/lunchroom supervisors, and
food service workers, who work as a team to make Hardy a safe and happy
place for students to learn.
School Improvement Goals
The North Central
Accreditation model for school improvement planning requires schools to
engage in a process of examining data, setting goals. Planning
strategies, and assessing the results of those strategies.
These are the goals that Hardy Elementary School
chose to target:
Goal 1: All students
will problem solving strategies including the application of basic math
skills through integrated instruction.
Goal 2: All students
will improve their ability to write purposefully in order to effectively
communicate to an audience.
Goal 3: All students
will improve their reading comprehension across the curriculum.
Our school is North Central Accredited. We
encourage you to become familiar with our progress and goals, by reading
our school improvement (SIP) report and annual reports, available in our
school office. Our core curriculum is aligned with the Michigan
Department of Education’s Curriculum Framework. These standards and
benchmarks are included in our South Lyon Community Schools curriculum
guides, available in our school office.
Hardy Elementary utilizes a variety of assessments
to improve instructional delivery. Some of these are teacher generated,
some are district generated, and others are State standardized tests. We
administer the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to all 3rd
through 5th graders.
Parents receive information about our school in
numerous ways. Upcoming events and pertinent information are included in
our weekly parent newsletter, The Hardy Happenings. Parents may
also learn about our school through this website. Teachers at Hardy also
provide classroom newsletters, containing more specific information to
their classroom.
Our parent volunteers organize and help out on
Picture Day, produce the Hardy Happenings, take digital photos,
organize special evening events such as a talent show and Bingo Night,
chaperone on field trips, make copies for teachers, support our
assemblies, and promote many other activities and events.
