From the Principal, Mary Brun
Welcome
to Brummer Elementary School. We’re proud of our state of the art
facilities and the exemplary educational program we provide to our
students. The school is a learning community made up of small
neighborhoods. Three of the neighborhoods have a variety of grade
leveled students (grades 1-4). In the fourth neighborhood, we house four
5th grade classrooms. By having students in this type of
setting, they develop a long-term connection with the teachers in their
neighborhood, as well as in-depth relationships with both the older and
younger students that they see everyday!
Our curriculum is based on the State of Michigan Benchmarks (GLCEs). It is
aligned to best meet the needs of our students and the requirements of
the state. Language arts, math, science and social studies are taught in
every classroom at every grade level.
Our students participate in a variety of after school enrichment
programs. For example, each month a special reading activity is held at
the school. For our kindergarten and first graders, we have “Bedtime
Stories with the Principal.” Children and their parents get ready for
bed at home, jump in their cars and come to the Brummer Library. There
they meet the principal (dressed in her pajamas, too) and listen to 45
minutes of great bedtime stories.
Our Parent/Teacher organization, named the “Brummer Neighborhood
Council,” meets on a monthly basis, every second Tuesday of the month,
at 7 p.m. Their goal is to become familiar with the school’s focus and
the district’s curriculum, while providing support to these endeavors.
Finally, we are proud to say that Brummer
Elementary has been involved in the North Central Association School
Improvement Process since we opened in 2000. In November of 2006, a team of
educators from outside of the district visited our school to review the
data from our five year school improvement process. We are pleased to
report that our school became accredited and did so by achieving a 5 out
of 5 on the evaluation. We are very proud of what our students have
achieved. However, this achievement could not have happened without the
dedication of the staff and parents. This is one example of where the
members of the Brummer community worked together to achieve their goals.
We are proud of our accomplishment.
