Kindergarten Enrichment
The Motor Moms and Dads Program helps children in kindergarten develop skills necessary for academic success.  Motor Moms and Dads, a Michigan Association of School Boards Educational Excellence Award Winner, provides a cost effective way to ensure that children get the motor skill practice they need.  This program allows all children in a class to improve basic skills in two or three, five-minute sessions per week.  Parent volunteers work with three to four students at a time, supervising as the children work their way through six activity stations.

5th Grade Camp
In the Spring of each year, our fifth grade students attend YMCA Storer Camp, in Jackson, MI, with their teachers and parent volunteer cabin leaders.  At the camp, students work in cooperative groups to learn problem solving and communication skills through a curriculum aligned with the State of Michigan’s science curriculum. An exemplary outdoor education program offers our students opportunities not available anywhere but at Storer Camp.

Adopt-A-Reader Program
The Adopt-A-Reader Program is made up of volunteers who have been trained to work with students.  Through reading, writing, and literacy games, students improve their language arts skills.  Volunteers work with students on a weekly basis.

C.H.E.E.R.S.
Brummer Elementary has several volunteers who assist students and staff in many different areas.  Volunteers diligently donate their time assisting anywhere their help is needed in order to help the school.  Volunteers work both at home and within the school on various projects.  Their countless hours of support help Brummer operate smoothly.

Tara Richardson, Leslie Stockford, and Barb Reeves head the volunteer group CHEERS (acronym for Citizens Helping Educations Encourage Responsible Students) at Brummer Elementary School.  For more information on volunteering, please select the C.H.E.E.R.S. link.

Shared Involvement Process (SIP)
The SIP is a committee of parents, teachers, and an administrator, who meet on a monthly basis to determine school policies and financial issues for Brummer Elementary.  The SIP publishes monthly minutes of each meeting and invites comments and agenda topics from the community. The SIP meeting agendas and minutes are published on the school website for your convenience.

Student Leadership Opportunities
Brummer offers opportunities for students to partake in leadership roles.  Some of the current leadership opportunities include: Camera Crew, Safety Patrol, Peer Mediation and Student Council.

The Camera Crew is responsible for taking photographs of students and activities throughout the year at Brummer.  Our students are trained in using disposable cameras and take pictures for the yearbook.

The Safety Patrol, available to fifth graders, allows students to be instruments in keeping our school safe.  Safety Patrol students monitor the building and assist kindergarteners and first graders during bus dismissal.

Each year our students hold an election for the Executive Board of the Student Council.  The Board and the classroom representatives met on a monthly basis to provide new ideas for improving our school.

Neighborhood Council
The Neighborhood Council takes the place of the traditionally known PTO.  Its executive board consists of parents and school representatives who meet once a month.  Their role is to sponsor family activities, raise money, and purchase books and materials for students.
