From the Principal,
Stacy Cooper
Welcome to Bartlett School! I would like
to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I have been an educator since 1992. Prior to my appointment in
South Lyon Community Schools, I taught first grade and Title I. In
addition to this, I have been an elementary principal since 1998.
The staff, students, and parents that make up the Bartlett
professional learning community, diligently work together, in the
pursuit of excellence. Evidence of this type of excellence is
demonstrated by our high student achievement scores on the state’s
standardized testing system and through the North Central Accreditation
process.
I am a firm believer in an open door
policy. Please feel free to stop by my office with any questions you may
have or just to say hello. As with parents, I also communicate this open door policy
to students. I am here to assist in any way possible.
Students are encouraged and invited to my office to share what they are
learning in class or to share a special project they are particularly
proud of.
A very important component of my
principalship includes scheduling time to visit classrooms to observe
students, instruction, and learning. If I am not available, you will most likely find me in a
classroom.
This school year, the staff at Bartlett
will be continuing their quest in developing the
life-long habits and attitudes (Habits of Mind) that teach students to
be problem solvers in and out of the classroom setting. These life-long
skills will assist children as they develop into adulthood. They also
teach students how to be intelligent problem solvers when the answer is
not readily available.
A few examples of Habits of Mind include:
- Managing impulsivity
- Listening with understanding and
empathy
- Thinking flexibly
- Thinking about thinking
(metacognition)
- Creating, imagining, innovating
- Applying past knowledge to new
situations
More information will be shared with
parents regarding the habits of mind as the school year progresses.
I look forward to another successful
school year.
